Some back story for you. The alpacas chase the dogs quite often. They really don't like them. Consequently, the dogs are afraid of the alpacas. I would be too...if they chased me with those front teeth bared like they do. As for Lucy, we got her from the shelter in Pinole. They said they found her in Richmond. She's a ghetto street dog. She didn't know much when we got her other than not to pee in the house. Now that we're done with the back story...on to the real story!
Yesterday, FIL D was out cleaning pens in the morning. As usual, the dogs were outside...the alpacas you know. Plus, they occasionally like to chase the sheep. As he was cleaning, he heard the dogs going crazy. He figured there was a stray dog or a goat loose or something so he goes over and finds the alpacas fighting each other. He leaves the pen to get a rope to separate them and when he comes back, he finds Lucy IN the pen (our chubby girl somehow managed to jump the fence) and standing between the two of them holding them in separate corners.
Remember, these alpacas chase her down normally but now she's managed to break them up AND keep them separated AND keep them off of her. Pretty cool. Lucy's finally reached her potential for ranch-dog.
